What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy has been in use around the world ever since the German physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) developed it in the early 1800’s. Hahnemann discovered and tested an ancient principle called the Law of Similars, and employed his findings as the foundation for a healing modality that he named Homeopathy.

The Law of Similars states that if a substance can cause particular symptoms in a healthy person, it will cure those same symptoms in people who are ill. In homeopathy, medicines are selected for the individual person according to the Law of Similars, in addition to a holistic view of their needs.

Dr. Hahnemann discovered a way to help people heal gently, rapidly and reliably without any dangerous side effects. Homeopathic treatment, like all truly natural therapies, seeks to stimulate the innate healing power of the body so that all physiological systems function at their best.

Homeopathy acts on an energetic level and has a broad effect, shifting mental, emotional, and physical symptoms. Since homeopathy is used to assist people rather than to treat illness, anyone, whatever his or her diagnosis, can benefit from homeopathic care.

In homeopathy, a persons health is viewed as a condition of the entire individual rather than in terms of isolated symptoms.

Homeopathy helps by increasing the individual’s strength and resistance to disease and can be effective in relieving many chronic health complaints; some examples include - but are not limited to: Migraines, Allergies, Chronic pain, Asthma, Depression and Anxiety.

Your Visit to a Homeopath

The homeopathic process is both simple and noninvasive, It begins with an initial consultation and continues with follow-up visits every few months to have your progress monitored.

Essential to effective homeopathic care is the information that you provide to the practitioner. The homeopathic practitioner will want you to describe as fully as possible, in your own way, the conditions that have caused you to seek homeopathic care. Your description should include everything that is truly characteristic of your problems.

In addition to information about your symptoms, the homeopath needs to know a lot about you in general. They need to know how vital and energetic you feel on the whole and how your sense of well being changes as a result of outside factors. You will be asked about such things as food preferences, fears and dreams.

The homeopath will also want you to discuss your mental/emotional nature. This includes topics like what activities make you feel most happy and what emotional patterns most limit your ability to express yourself.

The ultimate goal of a homeopathic consultation is for the homeopath to truly understand what is unique about you.

"The highest ideal of cure is the rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of health, or removal and annihilation of the disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles "
